Our Founders
The brains behind the brand are the bespectacled twin sisters, Santhi and Sari Tunas. The twins are both trained as architects. Hailed originally from Indonesia, the twins have lived in several countries in Europe and were once involved in a Euro-funded archeological project in a dusty remote Mesopotamian hamlet before finally relocated to sunny Singapore.
Our Story
Binary Style, he twins’ first ever creative collaboration was born out of their passion for catchy patterns, colours and well-designed scarves.
Binary Style debut and core collection is inspired by the twins’ current tropical home island, Singapore. The scarves pay tribute to the richness of life, nature, architecture and heritage of Singapore. Tiong Bahru district, Bukit Timah forest, Botanic Gardens are to name among many of their local design inspirations.
The idea of creating Singapore inspired scarves have already popped up in the twins' mind for a while but it was only in 2015 when Sari was taking a time off work the twins managed to put their heads together and worked on a more concrete plan and made their ideas a reality.
Since the initial launch, Binary Style’s square scarves have been gaining popularity among locals and expats. Being square in shape, the scarves are not only serve as timeless accessory but they are also highly versatile. They can be worn in many ways around the neck, as a top, as sarong or even as headwear. The scarves easily jazz up any outfit with their vibrant colours.
Not just another scarf
Binary Style scarves are not just another scarf, it is a scarf with a story and it makes a beautiful gift that is uniquely Singapore. Gift giving is important, it can tell so much of the giver. The twin recognise that so they seek to create a memorable experience for the recipients and the givers. Every recipient is special and it is a privilege to be able to share the (Singapore) story to each one of them and present it nicely. The twins thus designed an elegant envelope that is embossed with easily recognisable quirky Binary Style brand logo. Each scarf comes with a story card. The packaging is not only stylish but also designed to be a flat packaging thus giving ease to gift givers should they need to travel with it or they need to ship it over.
What now
With (two pairs of) great eyes for details, each twin is their other half’s toughest critic and number one supporter. Santhi, the older twin (of five minutes), is running the business now. Sari who is now working in a think tank -keeps supporting her sister from the sideline as 'artistic advisor'.
