It all started from a point of saturation. After years of working as an academic researcher in architecture/urban planning (Sari) and as architect (Santhi), the duo reached a point in their lifes where they were longing for a change of scenery.

Reunited in Singapore, after years of living in separate countries, the Indonesian-born twins bonded over long walks at various green pockets in the island whilst admiring local flora and fauna that they stumbled into along the way. An avid walkers, the sisters also love to discover Singapore neighborhood on foot where they spotted many beautiful heritage shophouses and state of the art buildings.

When Sari left her job, she started to create a series of artworks inspired by local architecture and nature. She roped in her sister to cook up a plan to turn them into business. The duo decided to put the artworks on fabric and made them into scarves. In 2015, Binary Style was founded with a debut collection of Singapore Stories on Scarves.
