Peranakan culture is one of the heterogeneous identities of Singapore, this crossroads on the trade routes of diverse peoples and nations. Roaming around in Joo Chiat, where powerful matriarchs once reigned, one can still find the manifestations of this hybrid culture at its best: flamboyant facades where Art Nouveau inspired details meets Chinese symbolism. This design features the iconic Peranakan colours along with the ubiquitous tiffin carriers, lucky pineapples and unique tile pattern.
