Monsoon Jewel Ceramic Plate

This exquisite ceramic plate is created in collaboration with Terakudo, an artisanal ceramic studio nestled in the hilly town of Ciwidey, West Java. The plate features a majestic Oriental Pied Hornbill soaring above a lush tapestry of vibrant Vanda orchids and tropical foliage. Deep sapphire blues and layered emerald greens evoke the richness of a rainforest canopy, while the textured finish enhances the hornbill’s distinctive casque and the orchids’ delicate petals.

Terakudo’s founder, Jules Kesumah, is a Karlsruhe-trained engineer turned ceramic artist whose work is deeply influenced by the timeless aesthetics of Mashiko pottery. He honed his skills under the tutelage of celebrated Indonesian ceramic master F. Widayanto, developing a rare balance of technical rigour and artistic refinement. Working closely with local craftsmen, Jules uses raw clay sourced from nearby Sukabumi, prized for its qualities reminiscent of Japan’s iconic Mashiko clayware. He also formulates his own mineral-based glazes, resulting in finishes that are uniquely expressive.

This plate is crafted using the sgraffito technique, where layers of glaze are meticulously carved to reveal intricate motifs and textures—a process that adds depth and character to the tropical scene.

A natural creative partner for Binary Style, Jules brings a meticulous attention to detail and a deep respect for craftsmanship. We hope you enjoy this meaningful blend of ceramic artistry and Binary Style’s distinctive storytelling, bringing Singapore’s rich narratives and tropical life to the fore.

This plate is presented in Binary Style lux black gift box.
